Danish Krone Forecast to Fluctuate against Pound on BoE Rate Hike Bets

Over the past week, the Pound Sterling to Danish Krone was trending within the range of 10.4215 to 10.6188.

At the beginning of last week, the Danish Krone was holding gains over its British counterpart thanks to significant growth in Danish industrial output.  June’s annual Industrial Production surged by 10.6%; completely eclipsing the median market forecast 1.42% growth. Such was the surprise of the industrial production print that it overshadowed a drop in inflation, narrower-than-expected trade surplus and current account losses. As the week progressed, however, the Krone lost momentum as traders opted to sell profits from the unforeseen upswing.

The Pound, conversely, fluctuated considerably over the past week as traders focus on every data release to attempt to predict the timing of a Bank of England (BoE) benchmark interest rate hike. After ‘Super Thursday’ saw Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) members adopt a more dovish tone than expected, many analysts have delayed bets a to the timing of a rate liftoff. Mixed economic data results and divergent opinions from Bank of England (BoE) officials have caused increased uncertainty and often subdued trading conditions.

The Pound Sterling to Danish Krone (GBP/DKK) exchange rate is currently trending in the region of 10.6030.

During Wednesday’s European session, the Pound Sterling to Danish Krone exchange rate was trending within a limited range. The Krone ticked lower versus many of its currency rivals after a report showed that Danish brewer Carlsberg’s second-quarter operating profit (before special items) dived 18.9% to 2.92 billion Crowns, failing to meet with a forecast of 3.24 billion Crowns.

The British Pound, meanwhile, declined versus its major peers on Wednesday despite a complete absence of domestic data to provoke volatility. Tuesday’s surprise rise in inflation caused the Pound to surge versus all of its major rivals. This opened up some attractive selling opportunities for traders as profit-buying caused the British asset to soften.

Looking ahead, the Pound Sterling to Danish Krone (GBP/DKK) exchange rate is forecast to fluctuate. This is because of the increasingly divergent opinions amongst experts as to the timing of a BoE benchmark rate hike. With the British central bank stating that rate changes will be subject to domestic data publications, the Pound is likely to swing from report to report.

Thursday of this week will be of interest to those invested in the Krone. July’s Retail Sales data is due for publication and is forecast to decline on a monthly basis. Friday will also be significant for the Krone with the Danish Consumer Confidence report due for release. Augusts’ Consumer Confidence is forecast to rise from 9.5 to 10.

The Pound Sterling to Danish Krone (GBP/DKK) exchange rate was trending within the range of 10.5640 to 10.6050 during Wednesday’s European session.
